Ca' Duodo Barbarigo overlooks a quiet
"Rio", which flows into the Grand Canal,
in a spectacular setting; there are at least 390
palaces in the city of Venice which are of sufficient
artistic or architectural interest to merit preservation:
Ca' Duodo Barbarigo is one of those palaces.
The Venetian palaces have a certain characteristics
which distinguish them from palaces built for
the nobility in other Italian cities at similar
periods. Ca' Duodo Barbarigo still preserves those
characteristics, such as the facade with the central
bank of windows on the first floor or "Piano
Nobile", dating back to the XVIII century.
Although Ca' Duodo Barbarigo has been heavily
transformed through the centuries and part of
it divided into apartments, its "Piano Nobile"
has been fully preserved by the owners through
the centuries; yet a wonderful example of unspoiled
interiors of a Venetian palace; inhabited since
the middle of XX century, it is now being brought
back to its original splendor by the descendants
of the Barbarigo. Just two minutes walking distance
from the Gritti Palace Hotel, St. Mark's square
and Accademia Delle Belle Arte.
The "Piano Nobile" has an area
of 400 square meters. The ceilings, 6 meters height,
have beautiful frescoes and Venetian chandeliers
dating back to the XVIII century.
