This magnificent villa is one of the Regal
Villas of the old Republic.of Lucca.
All these villas were inhabited by their owners
from the spring through to the autumn during which
time they received kings, princes, dukes, ambassadors,
literary celebrities. They also held balls, various
representations and concerts in the splendid surroundings
of ?greenery theatres?.
The Guinigi family, one of the greatest
Lucchesi families who for centuries ,owned palaces
and towers in Lucca. built the villa at the beginning
of the 1800, at the time of the famous lucchese
Architect Nottolini..
The Guinigi built the Camigliano villa on a hill,
above the church of the Cappuccini convent, with
a great view over Lucca plans, a little above
the old lemon-house and the older steward?s house.
The lemon-house is a very large complex of farm
buildings located between the main villa and the
steward?s house.
The steward?s house is a very old and beautiful
building , close to the main gate.It dates back
to 1600 and, in fact, was the original villa of
the estate
The great villa, as others palaces and villas
built at the beginning of 1800, reflects the style
of which the Architect Lorenzo Nottolini from
Segromigno, was the leading exponent. Neo .classical
style-
This imposing building is fully decorated throughout
with Neo-Classical paintings, and very rich and
extremely elegant Lucchese Empire furniture.
The vast park followed the fashion of the late
1700 early 1800, when many villas? owners modified
the scenographic plans of their gardens according
to the English style of that time giving free
develpment to nature, escaping the usual geometric
schemes of the Italian garden.
The last count Guinigi dwelt long in the villa
till the half of this century when it was acquired
by Bruguier family who restoared both the Palazzo
( as the villa was called) and the lemon-house
with great attention and loving care.
Very recently some visitors referred to Il Lucchesiano
as .a little Versailles
